Thomas Israël dissèque, dans la sculpture-vidéo « Le Mobile », le mécanisme de la représentation de soi.

En apparence, on se trouve face à  une image identitaire simple, légère, souple: un masque-mobile sur lequel est projeté la vidéo d’un visage.

Mais, à l’image du fossé qui sépare le corps physique et le corps symbolique, entre la peau du masque et ce qui s’y imprime, il y a tout un monde. Plus encore, la fragilité de l’image de soi contraste avec cette machinerie imposante qui sert à la constituer.

 

ENGLISH: Thomas Israel dissects, in the sculpture-video “The Mobile”, the mechanism of the representation of oneself. Seemingly, one is vis-a-vis a simple, light, flexible identity image: a mobile-mask on which a moving image is projected. But, as for the ditch which separates the physical body and the body symbolic system, between the skin of the mask and what is printed there, there is a whole world. More over, the brittleness of the image of oneself contrasts with this imposing machinery which is used for constituting it.

 

ESPAÑOL: En la escultura vídeo “El Móvil”, Thomas Israël diseca el mecanismo de la representación de si mismo.

Aparentemente, uno está en frente a una imagen identitaria simple, ligera y flexible: una máscara-mòvil en la cual se proyecta una imagen tambien móvil.

Pero, en cuanto a la zanja que separa el cuerpo físico y el sistema simbólico del cuerpo, entre la piel de la máscara y qué se imprime allí, hay un mundo entero. Más encima, la fragilidad de la imagen de se contrastes con esta maquinaria imponente que se utiliza para constituirla.
